| Built in 1898, the Sunset
House has been a welcome sight to travelers in the village of West Gouldsboro. Over
a century young, The Sunset House has served the needs of travelers for many a year!
Enjoy the warmth and charm of a stay at the Sunset House. Frank Noyes and his wife Mary, raised six children in this home, each with a bedroom of their own. Mr. Noyes was also proprietor of the General Store and Post Office, located across the road, now home of the "Maine Kiln Works." At one time, the Mill Stream on the side of the Sunset House, supported three mills; a grist mill, a shingle mill and a wool carding mill. Mrs. Noyes would supply meals to the workers on a daily basis. |

Owners are Carl and Kathy
Johnson, who relocated from Cape Cod in 1989. Carl is an executive Chef with over thirty
years of experience in the culinary field. Carl has been voted "Chef of the
Year" by the Maine Chapter of the American Culinary Association. Breakfast preparation begins at 5:30 AM. The Johnsons' own and operate the nearby Fisherman's Inn Restaurant located only a short 6 miles away in Winter Harbor. The entrance to the scenic Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park. |

| The Sunset House is
uniquely situated to enjoy both Sunrise and Sunset. Sunrise can be viewed over Jones Pond,
a 2½ mile fresh water pond bordering the property. Swimming, Fishing, Canoeing and Kayaking can be
enjoyed during the day. Kayaking the local bays and shoreline is very relaxing, while
taking in the rough beauty. Enjoyed by young and old alike, Mooselook can gear their tours
to beginners. You can listen to the water rambling over the rocks in the Mill Stream, or enjoy beverages while sitting on the porches. In the gardens, while taking a special "Time-Out", smell the flowers, watch the humming birds drink nectar or enjoy the sunset over Jones Cove, which is tidal salt water.A favorite past-time for guests is enjoying coffee at the breakfast table conversing and watching the many rarities of birds at the feeders located outside the window. A full country breakfast is served, while the menu varies, guests may enjoy yeast raised sour dough waffles, smoked salmon, and fresh herbed goat cheese omelets or French toast made with home made cinnamon bread. |

Located six miles from the fishing village of Winter Harbor, guests can spend the day exploring the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park, pick up some fruit wine at the Bartlett Winery and have a secluded picnic at the Petite Manan Bird Sanctuary which offers leisurely trails through woods, blueberry fields and a beautiful view of the water off the Rocky Coast of Maine. With Bar Harbor only 35 miles away, plan day trips and return in the evening to the Sunset House and recharge. Campobello Island, once the summer home of President Roosevelt is a 2 hour trip. Kayaking, Canoeing, Bike Rentals, Camping and Fishing trips are available at Mooselook Guide Service, only a short 3 miles away. |
